Fancy neighborhood garage sale — and a $7.50 clear acrylic skateboard

First time we’d ever sourced this neighborhood. Big yards, big houses, the kind of subdivision where the prices usually scare you off before you even park. “This is what we need for our work.” We tried to stay disciplined this run — actually flip-able stuff only — and then somebody offered us two skateboards for $15.

The skateboard pile

[0:25] Two skateboards — $15 for the pair. They were marked $10 each. One was a Retrospec 52mm cruiser. The other was a big clear acrylic longboard with light-up wheels — at first the seller thought it was electric, but it’s just the wheels. Either way, that thing is wild. [1:30] I asked if she’d do both for $15 and she said yes — “I was about to offer that.” Sold.

I’m normally cautious on cheap skateboards because the trucks are usually the tell. The Retrospec’s trucks aren’t great, but the deck feels really nice — layered wood, properly shaped — so I took the shot. The clear acrylic one alone has to be worth at least $60. We’ll see what comps say once they’re listed.

The covered estate sale next door

[3:30] Steve Madden “How to Be a Boss” boots — $5. They look like they’ve never been worn. There’s a price on the end of the box you can barely read; I’m guessing they were originally about $20. Easy pickup at $5.

[4:20] Ariana Grande Sweetener World Tour concert tee — out of a $3 shirt pile. Candice flipped through the rack and pulled out something with tour dates on the back — looked like it might be Lady Gaga, ended up being Sweetener World Tour. Concert tees are sneaky money on the right artist; that one’s worth a real listing.

The covered area had a whole rack worth digging — jackets $5, rompers $5, dresses $5, skirts $3, shirts $3. We grabbed a small armful and went to settle up. Whatever it ended up totaling, the spend was tiny relative to the quality of what came out.

The “we need a listing party” admission

[5:25] Candice tried to ride one of the skateboards out — “I’m gonna sit on the big one and you push me.” Almost happened. Almost.

Loading the truck I had to admit something out loud: I’ve already got like three skateboards that aren’t listed yet. We’re going to need a skateboard listing day. Listing party. Whatever you want to call it. “That big clear one, though — that’s cool.”

That was the disciplined run. We’ll see y’all in the next one.

A note on this post

This is the first long-form video on the Garage Flips channel — most of what posts here is the daily shorts. The plan going forward is one long-form sourcing video a week alongside the shorts, and they’ll get the same kind of writeup as a Shed Flips sourcing post, just shorter. Subscribe to Garage Flips on YouTube if you want to ride along on these.
